For more than seven decades, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great
devoted himself to visiting people across Thailand, listening to their difficulties,
and seeking practical solutions.
Recognizing soil and water as the foundation of agriculture, he pioneered land
development projects, initiated the Royal Project to address deforestation and
opium cultivation, and established Royal Development Study Centers as “living
laboratories” for integrated land, water, forest, and human resource
management. His visionary approach restored degraded soils, empowered
farmers and the wider public with knowledge, and became an enduring model of
sustainable soil management recognized worldwide.
This year’s World Soil Day theme — “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage”
— reflects practices that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great had
long envisioned, guiding all relevant agencies to implement them for the lasting
benefit of the nation and the world.
